Super Hero Night!

DSC06085At Camp Woodland we believe that you are never too young to start developing leadership skills.  Every Friday night a cabin is in charge of planning and leading an all camp activity. We call it Camper Council! This week the Tamarack cabin planned “Super Hero Night”.  All the cabins dressed up as super heroes assigned by Tamarack.  Just to name a few, Silverbirch-Bright Girls, TreetopsCaptain Underoos, Aquarius– Candy Girls, and Hilltop – Aquagirl.  The campers got to play games that were led by Tamarack that would save camp from the escaped Villan. It was a lot of fun and the cabins loved being silly and dressing up!

How Camp Woodland celebrates Great Outdoors America Week!

img_5625June 24-June 28 is Great Outdoors America week, and lucky for us, we are all about nature at Camp Woodland!  We take many moments out of the day to enjoy nature – and here in the Beautiful North Woods, the wonder of nature is all around us. The girls in Farm Zoo take nature walks and learn about ecology. The riders take trail rides through the Climax Forest. Even in Arts and Crafts, the girls pick wildflowers to press and use in making bookmarks.

The whole camp takes two weeks of evening workshops to explore the nature around us, including a visit to the Moss Garden at Towering Pines and our very own Woodland Bog. All the campers get a chance to adventure through these amazing natural wonders that we here at camp are fortunate enough to have available right at our fingertips. Our Nature Night activities are so popular, they’ve even been featured in National Geographic magazine!

But even though we take special time to appreciate and experience nature, it truly would be impossible not to take in the amazing nature that surrounds us! Every moment here at Camp is set against our amazing backdrop of pine tress and blue skies, of sparkling Sand Lake and arching Birch trees. We eat our meals overlooking the gorgeous waterfront. We stand in assembly under a gorgeous canopy of lush green. Even the mundane is made remarkable merely by the fact that we get to live in this amazing landscape. At Camp Woodland, we make sure to take time out to appreciate nature – but even our time “in” is full of nature appreciation. How lucky are we at camp that Nature Week is something we get to celebrate all summer!

Be sure to stay tuned for more stories and pictures from our Nature evening workshops!

On the Shores of Sand Lake

DSC05833Activities have started and the shores of Sand Lake exploded into a colorful flurry of activity at the waterfront. Some girls jumped right in the water with noodles and played on the blue mat. Other girls opted to participate in some enthusiastic beach volleyball matches. Whether in the lake or on the shore, the waterfront experienced a great summer kick-off, with laughter that echoed across the lake. Now that the campers are settled in for another great summer, they can look forward to heading down to the beach for swimming lessons, water skiing, tubing and sailing. It’s sure to be another fantastic six weeks on the shores of Sand Lake!

Ready, Set, Sunday!

As the skies above Camp Woodland cleared of Woodland Dew, all of Camp set out to have a wonderful first Sunday! In the morning, the girls got a taste (or a reminder!) of what activities are like as we went through our Activity Rotations. Spending a small amount of time in each activity area, campers were able to experience and learn about each different activity – and counselors were able to show off their stuff!

In the afternoon, the CITs put on a very special Sunday event: Find Snow White! Each cabin moved from princess to princess collecting clues and participating in fun princess-themed activities like relay races, Princess charades, and making Pocahontas marker tattoos! In the end, Sunnyside, Sunrise and Tamarack worked together to find and rescue Snow White.

After all that adventuring, everyone was ready for a cool-down… just in time for afternoon Rec Swim! The Big Banana was ready and the lake was refreshing, and the waterfront was the perfect end to a fun-filled day! To wrap it all up, we spent the evening . What a great start to the summer!

Camp Woodland Closing Banquet

Posted by on August 4, 2012

Last night we had our very special closing banquet at Camp Woodland. The girls take banquet very seriously.  They dress up in their best dress, comb their hair, and wear the cutest accessories.  They want to take pictures with everyone looking and feeling their best.

Once they have finished their photo shoot they are greeted with beautifully set tables, evening programs, and a wonderful meal of fresh fruit cups, turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and green peas.  To top off the amazing meal presented by our amazing Chef Dan is Ice cream sundaes with chocolate syrup, whip cream, and a cherry on top.

Then the real presentation begins……AWARDS presentation!!  The girls find out about all the levels they passed in each activity and any special awards they earned due to being a leader, outgoing, or perserverance they showed during the summer.  The campers also toast the counselors for all of their hard work as well…….

This is where I have to cut this blog entry short.  The closing banquet is very special to the campers, counselors, and staff and I am sworn to keep the rest of the secrets of banquet.  You will have to ask your campers all about their amazing night.  Take a moment to look at their memory folders displaying al of their summer achievements and awards.
