July 9 OD Blog

Dear OD Blog, July 9, 2008
Being OD is so much fun, although there isn’t much to do. In the morning I sorted mail and filed orders for toothpaste and flashlights and whatnot, how can you girls lose so much in the first two weeks? I also got to learn how to use the laminator it was like a hair straightener but for paper, COOL! After I was ski help, it was my hour off, and let me tell you now that it was a super nice hour. I read my book and got around 50 pages in, YAY ME! When campfire started I missed ringing the bell and collecting letters, sorry Lauren. Signing off for now,
Swiss Miss
P.S. I’ve definitely messed up the most out of all the ODs ever!

July 7 OD Blog

Dear OD Blog, July 7, 2008
So I woke up just like every other OD before me, and I went to wake up Jordan, the hostess. I went to her cabin to look for her and didn’t see her. So I looked all over the counselor’s area and she still wasn’t there. I ended up asking JoAnne What to do and she said that Jordan was already up. Then I rand the bell and woke up the rest of my cabin to hop! After assembly I did the normal OD duties, fun! I opened canteen for about two minutes, then I had to go up and ring the bell constantly for missing persons drill. Just as I was wondering how much longer is thing going to take, Tori ran up and told me to stop. Thank goodness! I finished canteen and went up to the cabin to shower, but Bobby distracted me by riding by on Rashad, so I went to the barn instead. Signing off,

P.S. Alex, stop stealing my hat!

CIT BLOG Highlights June 30-July 5

Posted by on July 12, 2008

A quick catch up on the previous week’s OD blog will get us up to speed on what’s been going on at Camp Woodland!

June 30
I forgot to wake up the hostess, but it was my very first day as OD so Trina knew to set her alarm in order to get up early to help in the kitchen. The morning consisted of regular officer duties like sorting mail and stocking canteen. In the afternoon instead of doing ski help, I suggested that the girls go tubing during rec swim since they don’t all know their level in swimming yet.

In addition to the usual OD duties, I got to go take pictures down at the waterfront in the morning. I also got a good one of Melba ringing the bell since she is the camper of the day. I enjoyed playing four square with my knees during evening activity, who knew those were the rules?

July 1
The usual OD chores had me bored so I headed to the barn during second hour to assist the riding class. They can always use help there! Then I got to upload and label all of the cute pictures from the day before, everyone looked really cute. It was a great first day of being OD again. Although it was hard work, my shower paid off well during my hour off.

PS “What did the warning say?”

July 2
Well it’s only my second day here in the northwoods but it feels like I never left. It was a slow OD day being Sunday and all but all the campers had a blast playing 4th of July games. France was a blast but I’m glad to be back at Woodland,

I went straight back to bed after waking up Claire to be hostess. Assembly was a little rough and I needed help with what to say and do, but that’s what friends are for. Happy birthday Ceci and Mrs. J! You guys did a great job running around the assembly area together! The best part of the day was getting to drive the golf cart down to canteen, of course accompanied by Mrs. J even though I have my driver’s license.

July 4
I woke up and went to ring the bell when I wasn’t supposed to ring it because the British were coming to wake us up this morning. Everyone in my cabin started to yell at me. When I came back inside my counselors told us all to wear red, white, and blue clothes because we are CIT’s. I later found out that it was a joke. I was so happy that I didn’t have to get in the water for ski help because we went to the boys camp for the campfire at night!

Signing off,

PS Who you looking pretty for?

July 5th
I thought I would dread waking up early to ring the wake up bell but I was surprisingly eager for the day. My favorite part of the day was lunch and rest hour, of course. Also having an hour off was nice so I had time to get ready for the social with the boys at night. Tip of the day: you’re not supposed to wear that much make up at camp.

We just posted our very first CIT BLOG! Look for more to come . . .
Everyday at camp there is a “CIT” – Counselor in Training – who is “O.D.” – Officer of the Day – and she is in charge of helping out around camp for the day. At the end of the day this CIT OD writes a journal entry about what went on at camp. We have traditionally called this journal the OD Log. This summer we would like to share it with those of you at home for some insights into our days at camp in the form of a BLOG. Enjoy!

Dear OD log,
Camp’s started! As OD I wake up at 7:30 to ring the bell and wake up the hostess but lucky me I was hostess. When Breakfast was over and when I was finished with hostess duties it was time for assembly. The whole camp together, fun! After all this excitement it was off to the camp office to do the OD duties such as sorting mail and inspecting the cabins. However, today was a bit different everyone was checking out activity areas while I was told to make activity slips. Soon after I got to go to inspection, good job Silverbirch, Tamarack, and Sunnyside maybe you’ll be clean freaks! Keep cleaning! Every half hour after that I had to go remind the camper of the day to ring the bell, which is always an amazing opportunity. By the way, good job Fiona on camper of the day! During rest hour my cabin (Aquarius) and I had to make some song books for dinner when everyone sings their little hearts out! Well the afternoon passed by quickly and it was time to go to vespers, dinner, and campfire. Before campfire everyone wrote a letter to let their parents know how amazing camp is and I had to collect them but that was the end of my duties. Amanda will have fun sorting that big pile of mail. Being OD and hostess was a blast! I can’t wait for the next time.
