CIT BLOG Highlights June 30-July 5

Posted by on July 12, 2008

A quick catch up on the previous week’s OD blog will get us up to speed on what’s been going on at Camp Woodland!

June 30
I forgot to wake up the hostess, but it was my very first day as OD so Trina knew to set her alarm in order to get up early to help in the kitchen. The morning consisted of regular officer duties like sorting mail and stocking canteen. In the afternoon instead of doing ski help, I suggested that the girls go tubing during rec swim since they don’t all know their level in swimming yet.

In addition to the usual OD duties, I got to go take pictures down at the waterfront in the morning. I also got a good one of Melba ringing the bell since she is the camper of the day. I enjoyed playing four square with my knees during evening activity, who knew those were the rules?

July 1
The usual OD chores had me bored so I headed to the barn during second hour to assist the riding class. They can always use help there! Then I got to upload and label all of the cute pictures from the day before, everyone looked really cute. It was a great first day of being OD again. Although it was hard work, my shower paid off well during my hour off.

July 2
Well it’s only my second day here in the northwoods but it feels like I never left. It was a slow OD day being Sunday and all but all the campers had a blast playing 4th of July games. France was a blast but I’m glad to be back at Woodland,

July 3
I went straight back to bed after waking up Claire to be hostess. Assembly was a little rough and I needed help with what to say and do, but that’s what friends are for. Happy birthday Ceci and Mrs. J! You guys did a great job running around the assembly area together! The best part of the day was getting to drive the golf cart down to canteen, of course accompanied by Mrs. J even though I have my driver’s license.

July 4
I woke up and went to ring the bell when I wasn’t supposed to ring it because the British were coming to wake us up this morning. Everyone in my cabin started to yell at me. When I came back inside my counselors told us all to wear red, white, and blue clothes because we are CIT’s. I later found out that it was a joke. I was so happy that I didn’t have to get in the water for ski help because we went to the boys camp for the campfire at night!

PS Who you looking pretty for?

July 5th
I thought I would dread waking up early to ring the wake up bell but I was surprisingly eager for the day. My favorite part of the day was lunch and rest hour, of course. Also having an hour off was nice so I had time to get ready for the social with the boys at night. Tip of the day: you’re not supposed to wear that much make up at camp.

Inside Scoop on our NEW Blog . . .

Posted by on July 12, 2008

We just posted our very first CIT BLOG! Look for more to come . . .
Everyday at camp there is a “CIT” – Counselor in Training – who is “O.D.” – Officer of the Day – and she is in charge of helping out around camp for the day. At the end of the day this CIT OD writes a journal entry about what went on at camp. We have traditionally called this journal the OD Log. This summer we would like to share it with those of you at home for some insights into our days at camp in the form of a BLOG. Enjoy!

Dear OD log,
Camp’s started! As OD I wake up at 7:30 to ring the bell and wake up the hostess but lucky me I was hostess. When Breakfast was over and when I was finished with hostess duties it was time for assembly. The whole camp together, fun! After all this excitement it was off to the camp office to do the OD duties such as sorting mail and inspecting the cabins. However, today was a bit different everyone was checking out activity areas while I was told to make activity slips. Soon after I got to go to inspection, good job Silverbirch, Tamarack, and Sunnyside maybe you’ll be clean freaks! Keep cleaning! Every half hour after that I had to go remind the camper of the day to ring the bell, which is always an amazing opportunity. By the way, good job Fiona on camper of the day! During rest hour my cabin (Aquarius) and I had to make some song books for dinner when everyone sings their little hearts out! Well the afternoon passed by quickly and it was time to go to vespers, dinner, and campfire. Before campfire everyone wrote a letter to let their parents know how amazing camp is and I had to collect them but that was the end of my duties. Amanda will have fun sorting that big pile of mail. Being OD and hostess was a blast! I can’t wait for the next time.

Summer 2008 Approaches

Posted by on June 19, 2008

Greetings Woodland campers and counselors! Another summer in Eagle River is just on the horizon. The staff at pre-pre camp are working hard to rustle Woodland awake from its winter slumber and getting everything ready for your arrival in a few short weeks. So put your school books away, get your bags packed and throw your sunglasses on because it’s TIME TO CREATE IN 2008!

Camp Woodland would like to introduce two new members of our summer team. They just arrived a few days ago from their home in Bessemer, Michigan, and they are here to make our summer taste great. Can you guess what they’ll be doing at camp?? You got it…they’re our new cooks! Mary, our head cook, and her assistant Greg love the outdoors. They spend their free time in Michigan camping, hiking, swimming, and backpacking. Welcome to the Woodland Family Mary and Greg!

Signs of summer. Although the counselors have not yet arrived, you can feel (and see) summer brewing all around Camp Woodland. Swim apparel has been spotted outside of Tamarack, Brandy (the dog) has already rolled around in every dirt pile, and have no fear Woodland ladies, the lake Gnomes are BACK after a long winter hiatus.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the counselors this Saturday, and then only one short week until the Summer officially begins. So listen here Woodland ladies, whether you’re coming from the U.S., Mexico, France, or China, we hope you are all getting geared up for a summer filled with activities, fun, friends, and memories!

Sew your Woodland patch on that awesome Woodland windbreaker and remember to leave room for the awards you’re sure to receive in the Time to Create Summer of 2008. Be proud of your achievements. Going to camp will be the start of something BIG!

GET SET . . . . !
Start planning your summer activities with your parents by filling out your activity card and sending it in today. You may change your mind by the time you get to camp, but send the card in now because we use it to place you in a cabin. Be sure to include any special requests. Then use the outfit list as a reminder of what to bring and – Pack Those Duffels!

The medical form will be sent to your parents. We will need this returned to us before you come to camp so get set with an appointment with your doctor!

GO . . . . !
Hop on the plane, camp bus or in the car and bid farewell to those who don’t get to go to Woodland this summer. Your parents will have the Resort List so that they can make plans to visit you. Remember . . . the final weekend of camp includes special demonstrations (Horse Show, Water Show and a special lunch for parents) and is a lot of fun. We will be sending invitations from camp also. Of course, they can visit any time after the first two weeks so that you can “show off” all the things you have been doing.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB! ! ! ! You are a lifetime member after your very first summer at camp. We think everyone at Woodland is extra special! We want to give a warm welcome to all first-year campers and think you will have a great summer !
